A novel representation of Ancillary Service Markets
Ancillary services are the variety of operations on the electricity networks that are required to balance supply and demand over all time scales, while maintaining voltage and frequency within safe limits and preventing overload of grid infrastructure. This is done by maintaining a combination of services providing grid stability, efficiency, and security.
Ancillary service markets clear energy and operating reserves. The operating reserve consists of regulating reserve and contingency reserve. Regulating reserve is cleared for AGC deployment on seconds basis. Contingency reserve consists of spinning reserve and supplemental reserve. These products are cleared in order to be able to respond in the event of a system contingency. Overall, the ancillary service market procures three types of reserve products – regulating reserve, spinning reserve, and supplemental reserve.
Nested reserves
Nesting feature allows the reserves that nest other ones to be partially / fully supplied by accepted bids from nested reserves. It means that nested reserves can be reused, where root reserves can contain one or more nested reserves.
Reserve type
User can choose between spinning or non-spinning reserve bids, where non-spinning reserves comprises units that are not required to be synchronized to the frequency of the system, but can be available within a given notification time.
Multiple bids
All the generators (hydro plants / units, thermal plants, batteries and renewable sources) can make individual bids for each reserve by defining minimum / maximum allowed amounts with respective chronological prices.
Reserve quorum
Each reserve requirement can be met by a predefined minimum number of generators.

New developments
Besides some important modelling refactoring tasks (transmission network, reserve groups, operation smoothing feature, ancillary service market and hydro encroachment), this version of NCP includes several modeling improvements, such as:
Hydropower
Hydro unit's bus connection, partially controllable spillage, turbined / spilled outflow ramping constraints, sub-hourly inflows, individual terminal function.
Battery
Energy injection bids / prices, single (primary) reserve, target energy storage, maintenance scheduling, multiple reserve bids.
General
Generic linear constraints, gas emission limits, thermal no-load costs, AC circuit overload, phase shifting transformers limits, symmetric reserve assignment, multi-stopping criterion, partial execution times.
Advanced visualization and processing tools
NCP produces more than 250 detailed reports, powered by PSRIO that enables users to transform, analyze and visualize data to facilitate better decision-making via an intuitive scripting language.
Graph & Dashboard
Create beautiful dashboards with our charting tool Graph and share them with your team with a single click.
Power / Hydro View
Power / Hydro View is a georeferenced graphical visualization that easily plots the animated evolution of circuit / water flows, marginal costs, generation, and other results on a map.
Post-Contingency Network Report
An application specifically designed to assess the model network solution. It effectively provides a comprehensive report showcasing circuit base case and contingency violations.
