SDDP 18

Integrated Energy System Planning Platform

SDDP

OptGen

CORAL

OptMain

SDDP 18 brings together operation, expansion, reliability, and maintenance planning into a single, unified platform. With a redesigned interface, powerful modeling capabilities, and full support for energy supply chains, this version enables consistent, high-resolution studies across multiple technologies, decision layers, and time horizons.

From power systems to hydrogen, gas, biomass, and water, SDDP 18 supports the co-optimization of infrastructure and operations across sectors — backed by PSR’s state-of-the-art stochastic optimization engine.

Maintenance Planning

Plan maintenance with high resolution, using risk-based metrics to optimize critical periods and support both operation and expansion planning.

Energy Efficiency

Model energy efficiency programs as investments to reduce or reshape demand, supporting flexible deployment and optimizing costs in system planning.

Power Network

Advanced Power Network Representation

Detailed power network model supporting a wide range of AC and DC components such as lines, transformers, converters, FACTS systems, and reactive power compensation devices. It ensures accurate representation of modern electrical networks with grid-enhancing technologies (GETs).

Key Parameters, Controls & Integration

Advanced attributes include flow capacities, fault probabilities, tap settings, voltage/reactive power control, and more. This new release also offers improved compatibility with tools such as PSS®E, allowing seamless data exchange and flexible network topologies for effective planning.

Expansion Planning (OptGen)

Scalable Investment Data

Users can now define in OptGen piecewise linear curves to correlate investment data with invested capacity. This enables dynamic adjustments to CAPEX, O&M, and firm energy, allowing the model to optimize investment decisions based on these curves instead of fixed values.

Efficient Frontier Optimization

Energy portfolios can be optimized by balancing cost and risk. The model evaluates the ideal energy mix, considering factors like climate variability, renewable intermittency, and fuel price volatility to ensure a resilient and cost-efficient strategy.

Expansion Generic Constraints

Users can create flexible constraints using project investment variables, such as defining linear relationships between projects, limiting the number of selected projects, and setting constraints on transmission line lengths for more precise planning.

PSR Factory

Automate Case Creation and Management

Create, edit, and manage PSR databases and scenarios with a few Python commands. Save time and eliminate manual errors.

Seamless Python Integration

Use PSR Factory with Python libraries like pandas and numpy to automate data processing, simulations, and result analysis.

Scalable and Efficient Workflows

Build robust, repeatable, and scalable workflows for large scenario batches and automated sensitivity studies.

Modeling Improvements

Unit Representation

Achieve more accurate modeling by explicitly representing individual units of hydro, thermal, renewable, and combined-cycle plants. Additionally, generator groups are now detailed in the transmission network, which improves spatial resolution and flow accuracy, enabling more precise dispatch decisions.

Dynamic Convergence Strategy for the Hourly MIP

Boost computational efficiency while maintaining solution quality. The dynamic relative gap strategy allows for defining multiple time intervals with different gaps, optimizing the solver's performance during the execution.

Generic Modeling Extensions

Generic constraint modeling now supports a wider range of variables — both binary and continuous — and can incorporate cost components directly into the objective function. Additionally, the new multi-stage constraints enable the modeling of green certificates, export limits, energy swaps, and other advanced policies, providing greater flexibility for complex system modeling.
